DAVID J.  ARRICK, a Certified Public Accountant, joined Boas & Boas LLP in 1987, specializing in accounting and tax issues for businesses and individuals. In 1990, he became a partner of the firm. Prior to joining Boas & Boas LLP, he served for three years as the Corporate Controller and Tax Director at Brae Corporation in San Francisco. David also spent six years working for the public accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand (PricewaterhouseCoopers) in both the Los Angeles and San Francisco offices.

Within David’s tax practice, tax planning and compliance services are provided to both individuals and business entities. He has determined the tax implications of a variety of transactions, including corporate and partnership formations as well as liquidations and tax deferred exchanges of property for individuals, trusts and related businesses. David’s clients include real estate operators, retail and wholesale businesses, professional service firms, software developers and restaurants, among others.

His accounting practice consists of providing services to clients including financial statement analysis, consulting with respect to financial controls and cash management. David has many clients who require financial audits or reviews to comply with lender or funding requirements. 

David is an active participant in professional organizations including the American Institute and California Society of Certified Public Accountants. He received an M.B.A. from the U.C.L.A. Graduate School of Management (1979) and an M.S. in Taxation from Golden Gate University (1988) in addition to an undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut (1975). As a demonstration of the degree of confidence placed in David, he serves as a board member, officer and trustee for several non-profit organizations and private enterprises.

THOMAS P. COUGHLAN, a Certified Public Accountant, joined Boas & Boas LLP in 1998 and became a partner in 2007. Prior to joining Boas & Boas LLP, he served as the controller at a post-production facility and has also spent six years working for a local boutique public accounting firm.

His practice encompasses tax, accounting, and assurance services.

The primary emphasis of Tom's practice includes income tax planning and compliance for high net worth individuals as well as closely held companies, which offers unique tax planning opportunities for the businesses and their owners. He has extensive experience with tax characterizations of transactions, such as issues related to stock options, real estate transactions and the purchase and sale of operating companies.

He provides financial statement preparation and assurance services for companies, their shareholders and interested parties. Additionally, he oversees the firm's quality control and has successfully completed independent peer reviews as required by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Tom earned an undergraduate degree from the University of San Francisco (1990).  He also holds a master's in taxation from Golden Gate University (2002).  He is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and AICPA Tax Section.


CHARLES MILLER, Sr., a Certified Public Accountant, is a graduate of UC Berkeley School of Business Administration. He has over 25 years of experience in public accounting and joined Boas and Boas LLP in 1994. Throughout his extensive experience in public accounting, Charles has developed skills in estate and gift tax preparation and the preparation of tax returns for California Registered Domestic Partners and same-sex married couples.  Some of the activities that Charles enjoys doing outside of Boas & Boas LLP include golfing, reading, and bowling.

JOHN MC GOVERN, a Certified Public Accountant, joined Boas & Boas LLP in 2012.  In addition to his many years in the public accounting field, John has director-level experience with two NASDAQ corporations.  He received his bachelor's degree from Georgetown University, his MBA from University of San Francisco (as co-valedictorian), and earned his master's in taxation from Golden Gate University.  His previous public accounting experience includes positions at two prominent San Francisco firms.  John's passion is helping small business owners grow their businesses and achieve their life goals.

PATRICIA A. GAYLER, a Certified Public Accountant, joined the firm in 2013.  She attended Golden Gate University and earned her California CPA Certification in 1995.  Her career in public accounting includes ten years at both Deloitte & Touche LLP and Ernst & Young LLP. Her experience includes corporate tax for both large and small entities, high net worth individuals, trusts, and non-profit entities.  Patricia is a member of the AICPA and serves as treasurer on the Board of Directors for her homeowner's association.

LIU LIU, a Certified Public Accountant, joined Boas & Boas LLP as a staff accountant in 2013.  She holds a master's in accountancy from Golden Gate University. Her expertise is bookkeeping and payroll services for our clients. In 2013, she received her Certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor accreditation. Her engagements also include the preparation of business and high net worth individual tax returns.   She enjoys watching movies, skiing, and traveling in her free time.

JASON YAN, a licensed Enrolled Agent holds a master's in taxation from Golden Gate University. Before joining Boas & Boas LLP he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers and in the tax departments of both McKesson Corporation and Oracle. Jason is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.

ZACHARY WIEDEMANN joined Boas & Boas LLP as a staff accountant in 2014.  He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from California State University Stanislaus in 2012. Prior to joining Boas & Boas LLP, he worked for two years at another local CPA firm. His engagements include tax return preparation for businesses and individuals, audits of 401k plans, and bookkeeping.   In his free time, he enjoys snowboarding, playing sports, traveling, and watching movies.

MARY FARLEY, Office Manager, joined Boas & Boas LLP in 1987. Mary started her career in Ireland and with her long history with Boas & Boas LLP is now responsible for managing the administrative operations of the firm.
